Annotation

Depression and depressive symptoms are burdensome in patients with advanced cancer.
Prevalence rate estimates of depression vary greatly from 3% to 58%. This may be related to
different assessment methods, heterogeneity of the population studied and lack of agreed
upon standards for defining and assessing depression. Furthermore, depression is often
under diagnosed and under treated despite existing diagnostic systems and clinical
guidelines for depression. This presentation will address above mentioned problems in
order to get more thorough understanding of the topic and how each of us can contribute
to improve care for patients with advanced cancer.
